 September 2015 Issue 15

Brenton Mauriello, President Elect; "It is an honour to be the incoming President of the Chamber and I take on the role with a great amount of commitment and determination. Fortunately I have had the benefit of working closely with Leigh Scott-Kemmis who, as the current President, has made remarkable progress over these past few years to build the Chamber into what it is today. I am very much looking forward to extending on Leigh’s achievements and continue to provide members with the support they need and to build stronger relationships between Thai and Australian businesses.

It is my belief that the strength of AustCham comes from its members and we really have a wonderful group that includes many entrepreneurs and industry leaders in a variety of fields. It is through AustCham that all of us can come together as a dedicated business group to effect change here in Thailand and jointly overcome the challenges that our businesses face. The Chamber increasingly has an effective voice in shaping the policies implemented by government departments and agencies and I am dedicated to encouraging greater engagement from AustCham members and other agencies such as Austrade and the BoT to bring about change that benefits all members.

The other major strength of AustCham is our extensive opportunity to network. It is through this that we discover new opportunities and support each other in developing our businesses. It will be one of my priorities to bring to you more high-quality events where we can come together and build our networks.

Ultimately, the Chamber exists for the benefit of the members and through my position as President of AustCham I will be dedicated to helping to facilitate success for all. "

Leigh Scott-Kemmis, Retiring President; "Serving as AustCham Thailand President over the last two and bit years has been a great honour and privilege and a big thank you for the support from the Chamber’s members and of course the other AustCham Directors.

It has been a period of considerable change on all fronts presenting both challenges and opportunities for the Chamber. Not only with the political landscape in Thailand but with the global flow of investment and trade.

We have attempted to manage these challenges with adjustments to the Chamber's office capability, increasing the range of sector representation and skills among the Chamber’s Directors and increasing the Chamber's presence with the major influencing stakeholders.

The future for Australian business in Thailand is very bright. We have an Australian Bank now operating in Thailand which can only further assist trade and investment, we have major Thai corporations investing in a range of industry segments in Australia and we have the very successful TAFTA celebrating its tenth anniversary and hopefully being enlarged to support even greater trade and investment between our two countries. There are a lot of positives for AustCham members to work with in the coming years.

As I mentioned at the last AGM a two year term for a President is a preferred objective however with two of the Chamber's potential Presidential nominees having major changes in their jobs and leaving the Board and the need to settle in a new Executive Director it was necessary to continue past the two years until such time as those transitions were in place which is now the case.

The Chamber is in now in very good hands indeed.

Thank you all for entrusting me with this great privilege and honour and I look forward to continuing to support AustCham. "
