On Friday 9 October, Austcham Thailand held AustCham Thailand Webinar: Work From Home – Insights & Learnings. Moderated by Gary Woollacott, Managing Partner at Horton International, the speakers, Andrew Norton; CEO at Restaurants Development and Sherry Cameron; Service Delivery Team Lead at Lifeline Australia, presented us an implementation of WFH practice within their organisations. We would like to thank them for sharing their thoughts on what worked, what didn’t and considerations for working from home policies in the future.
AustCham Thailand returns with its member briefing on “Post-Covid Recovery for Thailand’s Building and Construction Industry”, with a panel of experts from ANZ Bank, NS BlueScope, 1D Property, and a former CBRE Executive Director, on Wednesday the 5th of August 2020. The member briefing covered a series of topics ranging from potential future scenarios of a post-Covid Thai market to addressing and looking at the current property market in Thailand.
AustCham Thailand held its eleventh episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Hotel & Tourism Job Losses”, with RSM Recruitment and SO/ Bangkok on Friday 10th of July 2020. Where our guests discussed how the current job market for candidates and employers, while taking a look at the current state of hospitality at hand, and what opportunities lie ahead.
AustCham Thailand hosted its most recent webinar regarding “Australian Tax Issues: Residency for COVID 19 Refugees” with Steve Douglas Co-founder and Managing Director of Australasian Taxation Services (ATS) and Chairman of SMATS Group. Steve discusses the current issues and addresses queries in regards to taxation policies in Australia in context of Covid-19.
AustCham Thailand held its tenth episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Survival! Shifting from traditional brick and mortar to ecommerce”, with Raja’s Fashions on Friday 3rd July 2020. Bobby and Dan discussed how the current Covid-19 climate is making a change for the traditional brick and mortars with the importance of taking action, adapting, and showing care with what you do and those you work with.
AustCham Thailand hosted its most recent webinar regarding “Life post Covid and What’s next in the Thailand hotel market” with Colliers International on the 30th of June. Khun Waras, and Khun Natcha discussed current state of the hotel market, and what’s next for the industry in Thailand.
AustCham Thailand held its ninth episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Survival! Reducing risk through the use of technology and E-Commerce”, with Market Spider on Friday 26 June 2020. Michael discussed how the use of technology and e-commerce help can aid businesses survive and thrive during the COVID-19 pandemic.
AustCham Thailand held a webinar on “Update on visa extensions for expats living and working in the Kingdom of Thailand”, presented by Penrurk Phetmani from Tilleke & Gibbins. Khun Penrurk provided an update on automatic visa extensions, 90-day reporting requirements, and new regulations for report of residence (TM30) to be effective on June 30, 2020.
AustCham Thailand held its eighth episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Communications! AustCham’s new website launch and communications strategies in changing business environment”, with Lexicon Business Communications on Friday 19 June 2020. Max took us through AustCham’s exciting new website features and functionality, while David discussed communications strategies and the importance of storytelling in this constantly changing business environment.
AustCham Thailand held its seventh episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Survival! Adapting your business model during the COVID-19 pandemic”, with FORE Management Group and Fenix XCell on Wednesday 17 June 2020. Chris and Michael discussed how they were able to adapt their business models to survive and thrive during the COVID-19 pandemic.
AustCham Thailand held its sixth episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Hotels! A review of Anantara‘s “Staying with Peace of Mind”, ready to welcome you back!”, with Gold Sponsor Minor International and Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel on Monday 15 June 2020. Daniel proudly talked about the “Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration: SHA” certification from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports – the first Minor hotel in Thailand to be awarded one – and what measures hotel management is taking, as they remain committed to the highest health and safety standards.
AustCham Thailand held its fifth episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Remote Internships! The Benefits of Remote Interns from Australian Universities for your company”, with Asiania Consulting, The Global Student, and UNSW Business School on Friday 12 June 2020. We learned that while traveling to Thailand is not an option for interns from Australian universities this year, there is still an opportunity for the students to gain a cultural experience by working remotely with companies in Thailand, and with the host companies receiving the same benefits of having fresh, eager eyes working on projects.
On Thursday 11 June 2020, AustCham Thailand held a webinar on “What’s next? Insights into how Asian markets will look post COVID-19”, presented by John Evans, Managing Director of Tractus Asia. John provided insights into how Asian markets will look post COVID-19, with analysis of who are the winners, losers, and those left in the middle, and what strategic questions those companies will need to ask in order to re-engineer the way they do business to survive.
The Advance Australia Council, comprised of AustCham Thailand, Australian Alumni, ANZWG, Australian International School, TATSC, and the Thailand Tigers Australian Football Club, held a Virtual Meeting with Australian Ambassador, H.E. Allan McKinnon on Tuesday 9 June 2020, 13.00-14.00. The meeting was highlighted by an Australian Embassy update from the Ambassador, and interactive discussion between the Ambassador and Advance Australia Council members sharing experiences on the current situation for Australians in Thailand.
AustCham Thailand held its fourth episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Learning & Development! What does the world of training look like in the post-COVID-19 era? An opportunity to improve ROI?”, with Lee Hecht Harrison and Ra-Kahng Associates on Friday 4 June 2020. Leigh and David presented what training courses will look like in the post-Covid world and what positive influences we can expect to come out of the global disruption we have just experienced.
AustCham Thailand held its third episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Recruitment & Retention! How to attract & retain top talent in the post-COVID era”, with Horton International on Monday 1 June 2020. Gary and Matt highlighted industries that have been most/least affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, what positions are most sought after, and how teams working remotely has affected the workforce.
AustCham Thailand held its second episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Outsourcing! Strategies for Cost Savings & Business Process Improvement in the post-COVID era”, with Administration Outsourcing and Clarity IT, on Thursday 28 May 2020. Peter, Eddy and Jack discussed how outsourcing parts of your business can save costs and improve business processes, with many companies are looking at restructuring strategies in the post-COVID era.
AustCham Thailand held its first episode of the AustCham Member Focus Series on “Focus on Health! How to keeping physically & mentally for work & life challenges, with Dane Cantwell, Country Manager at Jetts Thailand, on Tuesday 26 May 2020. Dane explained how to and why you should keep fit for better work performance and a healthier life in general. Jetts Thailand re-opens their centres today and we wish them all the best!
AustCham Thailand held a Small Business & Entrepreneur (SB&E) virtual meeting on Friday 22 May 2020. An update was provided on visas and flights to Australian by Australian Visas Thailand, the security situation in Thailand by Intelligent Risks Asia; government assistance measures for SB&E in Thailand by Grant Thornton Thailand; government assistance measures for Australians and Australian corporations by Fulcrum Thailand.
AustCham Thailand held a webinar on “Digital Audits for the Hotel Industry” with Tom Nguyen Truong Tung, Managing Director of Syndacast , on Thursday 14 May 2020. Tom presented the travel market recovery scenario after COVID-19, preparing an owned-media checklist for hotels to get ready online, and setting up a digital media campaign checklist and best practices.
AustCham Thailand Webinar on Education with Borders with Dary Milani, Executive Director of International & Partnerships at the University of Newcastle (Australia) and Stephen Healy, co-founder and Managing Director of Nurture Higher Education, was held on Monday 18 May 2020, with our speakers discussing what international education looks like today in a COVID19 world and what it might look like into the future in a post-pandemic world.
AustCham Thailand Virtual Roundtable with Matthew Barclay, Australian Consulate General, Phuket was held on Tuesday 12 May with updates on the situation in Phuket from the Australian Consulate General. Thanks to Matt and his consulate team for the support provided to AustCham members in Phuket and surrounding areas.
AustCham Thailand Virtual Meeting: Women Leading from Home was held on Friday 8 May 2020 with members of our Women in Leadership committee sharing experiences on how they have been coping as women leaders, both at work and at home, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
AustCham Thailand Virtual Roundtable with Australian Ambassador, H.E. Allan McKinnon, was held on Wednesday 29 April with His Excellency presenting updates from the Australian Embassy, followed by an interactive discussion between the Ambassador and AustCham members. We would like to thank the Ambassador for giving his valuable time to spend with our members.

AustCham Thailand held a webinar on “Leadership at a Time of Crisis” with Isabel Valle – Peak Performance Strategist and Leadership Coach, on Friday 17 April 2020. Isabel shared with us the art of effective crisis leadership, including the three interdependent areas of activity that can help foster sustained high-performance, and the four specific actions that leaders at any level must focus on in the midst of a global disruption.

AustCham Thailand held a webinar on “Three months into the COVID-19 outbreak: How is the Asia Pacific CRE market coping?” with Ada Choi, Head of Occupier Research for Asia Pacific and Head of Research for Greater China at CBRE on Wednesday 15 April 2020. Ada presented on Q1 2020 Asia Pacific commercial real estate market performance, the implications of COVID-19 for the real estate industry and the actions tenants, investors and landlords can consider to mitigate the impacts, and long-term strategies to enhance CRE portfolio resilience.
AustCham Thailand held a webinar on “Managing Wellness of your Employees During COVID-19” with Stuart Shaw from DB Results, a leading innovator within the Healthcare industry both in Business and in Philanthropy, and Caroline van der Weerd from Ignition Retreats, an expert in Neuroscience & Cognition, on Tuesday 14th April 2020 from 13.00–14.00. Stuart presented solutions to help people cope with mental health issues, with a criteria for monitoring mental health that was developed by our clinicians, followed by Caroline’s presentation on what fear is and the root cause of it, where fear comes from and how to deal with fear and uncertainty.
AustCham Thailand held a webinar on “Protocols for Dealing with Urgent Surgery & Vital Medical Procedures” with Dr. Ekkit Surakarn, Medical Director, Bangkok Trauma Centre at Bangkok Hospital, on Friday 10 April 2020. Dr. Ekkit explained critical issues you need to know about COVID-19 in a hospital environment, safety measures being undertaken by hospitals, precautions for urgent surgery, and protocols in place for hospital visits related to surgery and other vital medical procedures.
