Australia Cohosting The 2nd Mekong Australia Policy Dialogue on Energy & Electricity Futures for Members of ACMECS

Together with the Thai Ministry of Energy, Australia was proud to co-host the 2nd Mekong Australia Policy Dialogue on Energy & Electricity Futures for Members of the Ayerwady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS).

Australia regards cooperation in the energy sector as crucial to the Mekong sub-region’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and building its resilience to future shocks.

Stronger energy investment and enhanced connectivity are among the options for achieving a sustainable and balanced energy future for the region, as part of our shared work towards Sustainable Development Goal 7 – “Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”.
With representatives from Thai agencies EGAT, EPPO and international representatives, we discussed market operation, distributed energy grids, and sustainability.

As an ACMECS Development Partner and leading energy exporter and investor, Australia is keen to continue to contribute its expertise in dialogue with ACMECS members, including Vietnam.
