Message From Chamber – May 2021

Brendan 1

“Dear Austcham Members and Friends,

With the COVID-19 cases continuing to remain high and the restrictions still having an adverse effect on businesses, we find ourselves hoping the vaccination roll out can proceed as planned. There have been various conflicting news stories over the past few months, and with this we would like remind that our COVID-19 Updates web page is a reliable source to inform you what is happening with government announcements affecting business.

For further updates on what’s happening in the Chamber, you can view the new episode of AustCham TV: Business, Connections, Community  below and keep an eye out for the social media launch this week.

Our Chamber has continued to work hard for our members through various activities from advocacy efforts to virtual events and business promotion opportunities.

As many of you would have seen, the recent Australian federal budget included some proposed changes to how tax residency will be determined for Australian’s living overseas. Under the new proposal, if you spend more than 44 days in Australia per year and meet one other criteria from a new list (including owning property, or have any dependents back home) you could be taxed as a resident. If these proposed changes will affect you, can you please take less than one minutes to complete this survey

The AustCham ASEAN Australian Business in ASEAN Survey 2021 has opened and we encourage all members to complete this survey as well – complete survey. This is your opportunity to influence policy makers, media and the investor community across ASEAN and Australia.

Our Committees have been busy with our Women in Leadership, Digital Economy, Manufacturing, and Hospitality & Tourism committees all delivering and planning activities during this period; please keep an eye on the AustCham calendar for when the next events are scheduled.

Finally, while we would still prefer to be hosting our monthly Sundowners at our member hotels, we are keeping the tradition going online and will host our next Virtual Sundowners on Wednesday 2nd June, 6pm onwards. Look forward to seeing you online then.

We hope you, your teams and all families are all coping during these difficult times, and please do not hesitate to reach out us if you need any assistance, have ideas, or would just like a chat.

Stay safe and healthy”
