Message From Chamber – May 2025

Jan

Dear AustCham Members,

May was an incredibly busy month, filled with standout events and valuable connections. Before highlighting those moments, I want to address a matter that has affected several members of our community: unauthorised emails offering to sell AustCham’s member database.

Let me reassure you—AustCham’s systems have not been breached. There has been no hack or internal data leak. These scams involve web scraping, a tactic where publicly available names and companies are copied from websites and falsely presented as exclusive or private data.

The scammers typically initiate contact using generic Gmail addresses, often with a subject line like “AustCham Thailand” to appear legitimate and avoid spam filters. Once a target shows interest, they shift to using @businessbox-s.com addresses—such as [email protected]—to present a more professional front.

To better understand this behaviour, I investigated personally and confirmed:

  • The scammers operate from a fraudulent website with generic content, hosted on a low-trust provider. There are numerous complaints from around the world.
  • Communication is carefully staged to avoid detection.
  • Payment is requested via PayPal using well-designed but deceptive invoices.

While this activity is deeply frustrating, it’s important to note that no AustCham data has been accessed or compromised. We remain vigilant and committed to protecting our members.

Celebrating a Fantastic May

Now to some positive news—May was truly outstanding:

⛳ Our BevChain Golf Tournament 2025 at The Vintage Club was completely sold out and a tremendous success. Thanks to our players, sponsors, and supporters for making it one of the highlights of the year.

🌇 Our May Sundowners at Crowne Plaza Lumpini delivered excellent turnouts and meaningful business engagement.

🌱 The NextGen TedX-Inspired Talks on Sustainability sparked vibrant discussions and showcased the ideas of our emerging leaders. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the initiative.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to start this month with our Signature Sundowners event @ Topgolf Megacity, a great opportunity to connect with members in and continue building strong regional ties.

Thank you once again for being part of the AustCham community. Whether you joined us on the golf course, the rooftop, or in the boardroom, your participation is what makes this chamber so valuable.

Warm regards,

Jan Rohweder
